John Deere Offers Generator Drive Power Ratings for Interim Tier 4 Engines

John Deere Power Systems, Waterloo, Iowa, has introduced the generator drive power ratings for its entire lineup of interim Tier 4 diesel engines. For prime power applications, interim Tier 4 emissions regulations begin January 1, 2011, for 174 hp and above engines and require a 90 percent reduction in diesel particulate matter (PM) and a 50 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) from previous Tier 3 requirements. JDPS now offers a complete range of generator drive engines that meet emissions regulations while delivering quick-starting, clean-running, and fuel-efficient performance.

For engines 75 hp and above, John Deere will start with its PowerTech Plus Tier 3 engine platform, which includes cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) for NOx control, and add an exhaust filter for reducing PM. These engines will feature full-authority electronic controls, a four-valve cylinder head, a high-pressure fuel system, turbo-charging and an air-to-air after-cooling system.

Engines between 75 hp and 173 hp will be available in 4.5L and 6.8L displacements and will be equipped with either a waste gate or variable geometry turbocharger, depending upon the size of the engine.

Engines below 75 hp, which include the John Deere PowerTech M 2.4L and 4.5L engines, meet Interim Tier 4 emissions regulations without the use of cooled EGR or an exhaust filter. These engines feature a two-valve cylinder head, a fixed geometry turbocharger, mechanical unit pump fuel system (2.4L), and mechanical rotary fuel system (4.5L).

The engine models and prime power ratings for the John Deere Interim Tier 4 lineup at 60 Hz (1800 rpm) include:

PowerTech E 2.4L: 33 – 35 kVA (27 – 28 kWe)

PowerTech M 4.5L: 56 kVA (45 kWe)

PowerTech PWX 4.5L: 55 kVA – 75 kVA (44 kWe – 60 kWe)

PowerTech PVX 4.5L: 91 kVA – 114 kVA (73 kWe – 91 kWe)

PowerTech PVX 6.8L: 140 kVA – 168 kVA (112 kWe – 134 kWe)

PowerTech PSX 6.8L: 203 – 228 kVA (162 – 182 kWe)

PowerTech PVX 9.0L: 227 kVA (182 kWe)

PowerTech PSX 9.0L: 256 kVA – 313 kVA (205 kWe – 250 kWe)

PowerTech PSX 13.5L: 341 kVA – 455 kVA (273 kWe – 364 kWe)

John Deere will continue to offer a full lineup of reliable engines for use in standby applications since emergency stationary applications are not required to utilize Interim Tier 4 engines with after-treatment devices. John Deere’s full lineup of generator-drive engines includes non-emissions certified; European Union Stage II and Stage III A; and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tier 1, 2, 3 and Interim Tier 4 models ranging from 2.4L – 13.5L of displacement and covering gen-set ratings from 33 kVA – 465 kVA (27 kWe – 372 kWe).
