Liebherr Produces Reference Book on Cranes

A comprehensive guide to the use of duty-cycle crawler cranes for constructing deep foundations is now available to engineers, students and planners.

Publication of “Special Deep Foundation: Compendium Methods and Equipment. Volume II: Drilling Machines and Hydraulic Crawler Cranes” follows the publication last year of Volume I, which focused on piling rigs.

The methods and equipment technology used to construct deep foundations have progressed rapidly in recent years. The selection of the most appropriate method and machinery demands ever more specialized knowledge and practical experience. These two books together comprise an authoritative reference to keep engineers up to speed with the latest developments in the deep foundation industry. They provide a comprehensive overview of ground stabilization techniques and the equipment options available.

The books are also proving themselves to be valuable in the education of engineers. “I use the Liebherr Compendium to great effect in my construction means and methods class,” said Professor Mike Vorster of Virginia Tech’s department of civil and environmental engineering. “It gives the students a unique and practical insight into the relationship between the technical challenges of construction and the equipment used to achieve effective and economical solutions.”

The books are the result of collaboration between engineers, technicians, machine manufacturers and users to give the best possible guidance for the planning, design and execution of foundations. They have been edited by leading equipment manufacturer Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH of Nenzing, Austria, and foundations specialist BVV Spezialtiefbautechnik Vertriebs GmbH of Munich, Germany. They are published by Wiley.

Volume I covers applications of the Liebherr LRB series of piling and drilling. Volume II covers Liebherr’s HS duty-cycle cranes and LB traditional rotary drilling rigs.

Each chapter discusses construction techniques and potential applications, along with the associated machine components. The specifics of each method and machine technology are examined in detail, together with technical and economic parameters. High quality photographs and technical diagrams are used extensively throughout.

The two hard-back volumes are available together at www.wiley.com at a discounted price of $260. Further discounted prices may be found at other leading retail sites, including Amazon.com.
