Modulift Launches U.S. Subsidiary

United Kingdom-based Modulift has plans for a new U.S. subsidiary to expand its business further into the North American market. The company will be based in Pittsburgh, Pa. Chris Batten has been named CEO of the U.S. subsidiary.

Modulift's signature product is its modular spreader beam for material handling, made with bolt-together components. Batten said the company will be outsourcing the fabrication in the United States, as it does in the U.K.

The company has been in the U.S. market for some time, but this venture will give it the opportunity to expand. “This move is in recognition of the greater potential we will have with a base in the U.S. run by U.S. folks, and the advantage of holding stock in the U.S. and not having to ship from the U.K.,” Batten said.

Batten has been with the company for several months and was appointed specifically to run the U.S. operation and help with sales and strategy in the U.K. business. Batten has a background in financial services, telecommunications, software engineering and consultancy. He was also in the British Army for 13 years.

The U.S. version of the company's website will be available during the next six weeks.
