The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) has prepared a document to help employers, operators, riggers, and signalpersons better understand the personnel qualification requirements under the federal OSHA’s new rules for Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1926, Subpart CC). The “NCCCO Guide to OSHA’s Personnel Certification and Qualification Requirements” can be found on the organization’s website along with additional resources.
In addition to the full text of the rule at the end of the document, the specific sections applicable to personnel qualification requirements have been extracted into separate chapters, along with answers to numerous frequently asked questions submitted to NCCCO. A memo and letter of interpretation from OSHA that clarify the difference between “construction,” to which this rule applies, and “maintenance,” to which the rule does not apply, are also included.
