United Rentals Names New Chair

United Rentals Inc., Greenwich, Conn., announces it has named Jenne Britell as its chairperson. She has served as a United Rentals director since 2006 and takes the post Bradley Jacobs held until his resignation last August.

Britell will continue in her role as chairman and chief executive officer of Structured Ventures Inc., which advises U.S. and foreign companies on financial services and product strategy. She is also a director of three other companies traded on the New York Stock Exchange: Crown Holdings, Inc., Quest Diagnostics Inc., and West Pharmaceutical Services Inc.

Previously, Britell was a senior executive at GE Capital from 1996 to 2000. From 1993 to 1996, she was executive vice president, chief lending officer, and general manager of mortgage banking at Dime Bancorp Inc. She also held leadership positions with Citicorp and Republic New York Corp. In 1992, she was the founding chairwoman and CEO of the Polish-American Mortgage Bank in Warsaw, the first American to be approved by the National Bank of Poland to run a Polish bank.

Howard Clark, chairman of the United Rentals board's nominating and corporate governance committee, said, “In her years as a director, Jenne has demonstrated exceptional business acumen and judgment, from which we will continue to benefit as she assumes additional responsibilities.”
