Workers Escape Serious Injury when Crane Boom Buckles

Cashmere, Wash., June 2012—Two workers suffered minor injuries when a crane’s boom buckled while lifting a 50,000-pound precast concrete floor panel during construction of a storage facility. The 10- by 40-foot slab fell about 30 feet and damaged five concrete wall panels already in place. One injured worker was standing on a nearby panel. He was thrown into the air but caught by his safety harness and suffered only bruises. The other injured worker suffered rope burns. Both were back at work before day’s end. The Washington Dept. of Labor and Industries is investigating. – www.wenatcheeworld.com
