According to the Springfield News-Sun, Konecranes Americas has laid off about 18 employees in Springfield, Ohio.
Tom Southard, president for the Americas, was quoted as saying the company has been fortunate thus far. While 2008 was a record year for the company and power and wind energy are big customers for Konecranes, the auto industry is down. The company has experienced fairly consistent growth for about 25 years, and the Springfield News-Sun said current recession is something Southard hopes will not have a lasting impact.
