AEMP Revises Telematics Standard

The Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) has revised its telematics data standard.

Revision V1.2, made March 15, did not change any of the data elements of the standard, which AEMP released in February, 2010. It corrected schemas contained in appendices and the original toolkit. Appendices (A&B) of V1.1 contained inaccuracies, according to an AEMP statement, as did the schemas presented in the original toolkit and the ajoining xml validator tool.

In addition to the introduction of Green Fleet Certifications and Certification for Equipment Managers, AEMP announced the revision at ConExpo in Las Vegas. “It’s the number one pain to AEMP members,” said Stan Orr, AEMP president and CEO. “Fleet managers have asked for consistency in the reporting of hours, location, fuel consumption, and miles traveled. And equipment manufacturers are willing to do more.” AEMP was instrumental in bringing OEMs and fleet managers together to develop the standard.

Under the AEMP Telematics Data Standard V1.2, participants will provide agreed-upon data elements so that the format in which data is transmitted and how the request is implemented is consistent. (A list of supporting telematics providers is available at www.aemp.org.) The software to retrieve the data will need to be developed by, or for, each end user for their specific fleet management needs.
