Manitowoc Cranes will lay off about 300 workers over the next two weeks, according to a local newspaper. Insisting the layoffs are only temporary, the Manitowoc, Wis., company says it will begin recalling workers in late October.
Employees primarily in the fabrication sector will be without work for at least the next month, according to the Herald Times Reporter newspaper, which reported last week that the company blamed the soft economy for the move. Manitowoc representatives added the company still has more employees worldwide than it did nine months ago.
