The American Rental Association (ARA) has introduced updates to its Equipment Rental Guard (ERG) program, including a redesigned website and expanded tools focused on theft prevention in the equipment rental industry.
ERG, launched in 2025, is an industry-wide initiative designed to help rental companies identify suspicious activity and reduce equipment theft. The program provides access to training resources, alerts and a shared database intended to improve communication across the rental sector.
The updated website, equipmentrentalguard.org, features improved navigation and expanded resources. According to ARA, the redesign is intended to make it easier for users to access theft-prevention tools and information.
A key addition is a problematic renter database and dashboard. The system consolidates member-submitted text alerts regarding flagged renters and stolen equipment into a searchable platform available to both ARA members and law enforcement agencies.
“Equipment theft is not just a financial issue — it disrupts operations, delays projects and impacts customers across the industry,” said Ryan White, ARA director of theft prevention. “With these new tools, we’re giving members greater visibility into potential risks and strengthening the industry’s ability to work together to prevent loss.”
ARA is encouraging continued member participation through text alert enrollment, training resources available via RentalU, and submission of theft-related reports to the ERG database.
The association will also host a Lunch & Learn session on April 16 titled “What’s New with Equipment Rental Guard,” highlighting the program’s latest enhancements.
