The CONEXPO-CON/AGG 5K Run/Walk, which will be held on March 5, 2014, in conjunction with the 2014 CONEXPO-CON/AGG exposition in Las Vegas, announces its support for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. This non-profit was established in 2004 to provide immediate financial support for inured and critically ill members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. The organization has issued more than 62,000 grants totaling more than $80 million to more than 10,200 service members since 2004.

The Semper Fi Fund (SFF) provides relief for financial needs that arise during hospitalization and recovery, as well as assistance for those with ongoing needs. Support may include service member and family support, specialized and adaptive equipment, adaptive housing and transportation, education and career transition assistance, and PTS and TBI support. Additionally, the Team Semper Fi, and America's Fund are a self-funded program administered by the Semper Fi Fund that currently assists service members with catastrophic injuries in intensive care units at military hospitals, regardless of what military branch they serve in.

Megan Tanel, executive director for CONEXPO-CON/AGG, said: “The Semper Fi Fund is a highly rated organization helping service members who have sacrificed so much for our freedom, and we are excited to be involved with such a worthwhile endeavor. This 5K Fun Run is an excellent way to help service members during their time of great need, while at the same time enjoying a fun activity. We encourage all attendees to participate.”

Guy Ramsey, president of race organizer Maximum Capacity Media LLC, has set a goal for the race to raise at least $10,000 for the fund. “When the opportunity to support something as critical as helping those who have sacrificed so much for our continued freedom was presented to me, I couldn’t say yes fast enough,” he said. “At the last race in 2011, we had almost 250 runners, and I envision that number swelling to 400, considering the cause everyone will be running for.”

Volvo Construction Equipment has committed to be a race sponsor, and Terex Corporation will be the Corporate Cup Award Sponsor.
