Crane and Rigging Forums Planned for 2013

MCM Events, the conferences and events division of Maximum Capacity Media, has confirmed dates for its annual Crane & Rigging Conference, which will again be co-located with the Industrial Crane & Hoist Conference (ICHC), this time on May 29-30, 2013, at the Indianapolis Marriott North in Indianapolis, Ind.

The announcement follows MCM Events’ earlier commitment to take the CRC Canada brand to Edmonton, Alberta, for the third successive year in the fall. CRC Canada 2013 will take place Oct. 22-23 at the Edmonton Marriott at River Cree Resort. While ICHC is not affiliated with CRC Canada, overhead lifting equipment will again be featured on this year’s agenda.

Government support for CRC Canada
The Canadian government has backed CRC Canada, following the public inauguration of the independent Canadian Hoisting & Rigging Safety Council (CHRSC) at the 2012 event.

Andrew Sharman (pictured), Alberta’s assistant deputy minister for workplace standards, told the CRC Canada gathering in September that his government supports the newly formed CHRSC’s efforts.

“So long as we strive to adopt the highest standards for the workplace, your industry will continue to offer competitive jobs to workers, safety and security to them and their families, and a prosperous future for our communities and industries alike,” Sharman said. Earlier in his address, Sharman noted the importance of the council’s goal to reduce costs and increase mobility across neighboring jurisdictions. Then he presented some sobering statistics that illuminated the importance of workplace competence in that equation.

“Between 2008 and 2011, 533 people have died in occupational fatalities in this province,” Sharman said. “The average works out to nearly 133 workers who die each year. In 2012, as of yesterday [at the time of speaking], 20 people have lost their lives on Alberta worksites through avoidable incidents.”

The CHRSC will report back to CRC Canada 2013 on the progress the group has made over the past year.
