Sinoboom Launches Collision Detection and Avoidance System for Boom Lifts

Sinoboom has launched a new collision detection and avoidance system designed for its boom lift product ranges. The system, called Sinoboom CARS (Collision Avoidance Radar System), is intended to detect and help prevent collision risks during boom lift operation.

According to the company, Sinoboom CARS uses multiple sensors positioned around the boom lift platform to create a three-dimensional sensing field. This array monitors the surrounding area in real time and is designed to identify both stationary and moving hazards near the machine.

When a potential risk is detected, the system initiates a sequence of automated responses aimed at preventing contact between the boom lift and the obstacle. The sensors rely on solid-state ultrasonic technology combined with dual-fusion radar to enable rapid detection and response.

The system operates through three escalating levels of intervention. At the first level, visual and audible alerts warn the operator as the boom lift approaches an obstacle. If movement toward the obstacle continues, the system automatically reduces operating speed. As a final measure, active braking is applied to stop machine movement when a collision is imminent.

Sinoboom states that the system is designed to function in conditions that may limit operator visibility, including fog, dust or low-light environments, and may support both safety and operational efficiency.

“Human nature means that even the most skilled operators can be fallible, and when working at height, any momentary lapse in attention can have serious consequences. CARS has been developed to provide operators with a secure and intelligent safety net – the ability to take over, and even stop operations in the event of a collision becoming imminent,” said Hyman Yu, Sinoboom’s head of global product management center.
