United Rentals is enhancing its digital rental platform with two new features: Smart Suggestions and Equipment Fit Augmented Reality (AR). These tools aim to help operators make faster, more confident rental decisions and optimize jobsite operations.
Smart Suggestions predicts the equipment customers are likely to need next, using factors such as order history, jobsite data and industry trends. The system has shown early success, cutting the time to select and order equipment by 27 percent.
Equipment Fit AR allows operators to virtually position 3D equipment models on their worksite through mobile devices. This feature makes it easier to evaluate dimensions, confirm proper fit and plan for placement in challenging or restricted-access areas.
“Smart Suggestions and Equipment Fit AR are about anticipating customer needs,” said Paul Maddison, director of product management at United Rentals. “By leveraging machine learning and augmented reality, we’re giving customers tools that help them make confident, informed decisions at the moment of rental. It’s about delivering the right equipment at the right time, with less friction.”
These innovations expand United Rentals’ digital capabilities, allowing customers to browse, reserve and manage rentals from any device while improving efficiency and reducing delays on the jobsite.
