ACRP Recommends Development of Self-Erecting Tower Crane Standard

The Association of Crane and Rigging Professionals (ACRP) voted at its 2007 General Assembly meeting to recommend to the ASME/ANSI B30 main committee that it consider the development of a new volume for self-erecting tower cranes. ACRP suggests that the standard include, but not be limited to, self-contained and ballast-added types and trailer- mounted and self-propelled types.

In other business, ACRP's public safety committee has begun drafting mobile crane inspection training guidelines, expected to be presented at the association's January 2008 board meeting. A similar document offering guidelines for slings and rigging hardware has been approved. It addresses inspection intervals, proof testing requirements, and inspection requirements for slings and assemblies, rigging hardware, below-the-hook lifting devices, and auxiliary rigging equipment. The document is free and will be available for download at www.acrp.net.

Newly elected officers and board members include the following. Serving three-year terms as president and vice president are Mike Parnell of Industrial Training International and Mike Riggs of SlingMax Inc., respectively. Jerry Klinke of ACRA Enterprises Inc., was elected to the position of chairman of the board of directors.

Returning board members elected to a new three-year term include Danny Bishop of The Crosby Group and Andrew Wilson of Lonestar Rigging, representing the Associate Category. In the Corporate Category, James Cahill of J.F. White Contracting Co.; Ray Linton of Jeffboat LLC; and Todd Nicholes of Pacificorp, were elected.
