Bigge Uses Liebherr LR 1600/2 Crawler Crane on Wind Farm

Bigge Crane and Rigging Co., San Leandro, Calif., is using the Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler crane to assemble and install wind power systems on a wind farm in Ohio. With a main boom 108 metres (354 feet) in length and a fixed jib of 12 metres (39 feet), the crane lifted a 165,000-pound Gamesa G90 machine housing onto the top of a 100-metre (328-foot) tower.

Targeted for wind power industry operations, the LR 1600/2 features optimized component weights and dimensions. Its SL main boom can achieve hook heights of 117 metres (389 feet) without the need for a derrick or auxiliary crane. The LR 1600/2 offers a lifting capacity of more than 95 tonnes (209,000 pounds), a configuration that’s ideal for this type of wind power application.
