Crane Companies Honored for Rigging Jobs of the Year

The Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association recognized three projects as Job of the Year winners in rigging during the annual conference in April.

In the Over $750,000 category, Barnhart, Memphis, Tenn., received an award for providing a heavy-lift system, custom rigging solutions, and engineered rigging to perform the replacement of a reactor vessel closure head in a nuclear power plant. Tight clearance, seismic design requirements, and critical path schedule all added to the complexities of the job.

Crane Rental Corp., Orlando, Fla., received an award in the Rigging $150,000 to $750,000 category for the installation of a 150-foot, 240,000-pound coal conveyer over the water intake canal at Tampa Electric’s Big Bend power plant during the fall of 2009. The project featured the use of a 700-ton barge-mounted gantry system to set the conveyor system in place.

Barnhart again received an award, this time in the Under $150,000 category, for the expeditious replacement of a damaged bridge section in Shreveport, La., during one weekend in June 2009. Barnhart used 60-ton assist crane to dress out its Goldhofer transport system with 10-foot pyramid stands and large header beams in the lay-down area, to remove the estimated 260,000-pound section—measuring 86’ long,17’ 6” wide, and 15’ high.
