Fleet Managers Conference Announces Speakers and Topics | Industry News

Organizers of the Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference (EUFMC) have announced the speakers and topics they will present during the 2016 conference, which will be held in early June in Williamsburg, Va.

The annual conference attracts fleet managers from utilities across the United States, Canada, and even some from South America, as well as manufacturers and service providers who supply utility fleets with the equipment, tools, and services they need to keep install and maintain electrical infrastructure.

To date, this year's conference has seen registrations top 125 fleet managers and more than 315 supplier representatives from 100 companies.

This year's theme is "Solutions for Managing a Progressive Fleet."

Here are the topics in the comprehensive educational program with presentations by fleet executives, industry experts, manufacturers, and other suppliers who serve utility fleets.

Keynote Speaker
Eric Pike, Chairman and CEO of Pike Corporation, will be the Keynote Speaker at the 2016 Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference. With over 7,000 employees, Pike Corporation, which includes Pike Electric, UC Synergetic and Power Contracting, is a leading national and international supplier of engineering, construction, and maintenance and storm restoration services for the power and communications industry. Eric Pike, a third generation family member who has been with the company for 26 years, transitioned the company from a regional family held business to a NYSE listed public company and back to a private corporation.

Data Driven Progress
A fleet panel discussion on benchmarking practices, moderated by Chris Shaffer, Partner at Utilimarc, will include John Adkisson, Fleet Manager at PPL Electric Utilities, Todd Carlson, Principal Manager - Fleet Asset Management at Southern California Edison, and Joe Young, Fleet Supervisor at We Energies.

Connect, Optimize and Automate Telematics
Moderator Luke Watchel, Vice President, Transportation & Logistics at Telogis, will lead a fleet discussion featuring Mike Shruba, Director- Field Operations at Indianapolis Power & Light Co., Michael Daniels, Manager at Pacific Gas & Electric and Doreen Masalta, Director of Operations at PECO, an Exelon Company.

Workforce Technology Today and Tomorrow
Dean Jones, Fleet Technical Specialist at Duke Energy will discuss keeping technicians up to date with information technology for repairs in house or in the field.

Climate Change & Weather Extremes
Meteorologist Jim Abraham spent 36 years with Environment Canada in senior management positions responsible for weather services, weather research and environmental monitoring, and was responsible for setting up the Canadian Hurricane Centre. A partner with Climaction Services and a part-time CBC meteorologist, Abraham remains active in a variety of weather, climate and hydrological related activities, is a volunteer Board Member of the Canadian Climate Forum and Chapter President with the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society.

Limiting Liability
Legal expert James B. Hood, Partner, The Hood Law Firm, will again address the Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference. Following a well-received presentation at EUFMC 2015 on Distracted Driving, Hood will cover “Limiting Liabilities Within Your Fleet” for attendees at the 2016 conference

Fleet Electrification
Kellen Schefter, Manager Sustainable Technology, Edison Electric Institute (EEI) discusses the latest issues being addressed by the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies, 70 international electric companies and 270 industry suppliers and related organizations. Paul Jefferson from OG&E will provide an overview of his company’s experience electrifying a portion of its fleet and Jordan Smith from Southern California Edison will review the fleet’s performance testing and analysis of plug in hybrid trucks.

Safety Session
I N J A M-It’s Not Just About Me -- The importance of SAFETY 24/7 at work and at home will be on the agenda at EUFMC’s highly popular annual session on safety. Blinded in an accident on the job at a coal-fired power plant, this year’s speaker, Tony Crow, founder of the non-profit corporation INJAM-It’s Not Just About Me, will share humor and real-life stories about how he is living as a blind person in a sighted world.

Developing a Great Team
NFL Legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Singletary will address EUFMC as the featured dinner speaker during the 2016 conference. Drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1981, Singletary became a starter in the Bears lineup in his rookie season, went on to start 172 games for the team during his 12-year career, and finished as the Bears’ first or second leading tackler each of his last 11 seasons. Selected to play in a team record 10 Pro Bowls, Singletary was All-Pro eight times, All-NFC every year from 1983 until 1991, and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1985 and 1988. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.

EUFMC Drive-Through & Equipment Show
An annual utility equipment demonstration that features more than 60 educational and technical presentations by suppliers detailing the design features, specifications, capabilities and benefits of their latest technologies for electric utilities, and an equipment show that is the site of over 60 displays.
