HIIG Construction Reports New President | Construction News

Houston International Insurance Group (HIIG) has named Jonathan Oppenheim as president and chief underwriting officer of HIIG Construction. He reports to Kevin Cunningham, CEO of the construction division.

According to Byron Way, senior vice president of HIIG, "Jon adds to the leadership of the division and provides experience and a depth of knowledge that greatly enhances our expanded focus in the construction industry.”

Oppenheim graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in risk management and insurance and has been in the construction insurance industry for over 25 years. He was most recently senior vice president of the Old Republic Construction Program Group and was responsible for underwriting the eastern region.

“I am thrilled to be part of the HIIG team and look forward to making a difference in the expansion of the construction division and the continued success of HIIG,” Oppenheim said.

HIIG has underwriting divisions focused on construction; energy; professional liability; transactional property; and other specialty business with offices in Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Birmingham, Ala., as well as representation in London, England. HIIG has assets of more than $1 billion and shareholders’ equity of almost $250 million. HIIG’s insurance company subsidiaries consist of Houston Specialty Insurance Company, Imperium Insurance Company, Great Midwest Insurance Company, and Oklahoma Specialty Insurance Company. These insurance companies are rated A/A- (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company.
