Kirby-Smith Machinery has promoted John Arterberry to sales manager for its crane division and has hired Shawn Ballard as the new operations manager for its Odessa, Texas, branch.

Arterberry, who has been with Kirby-Smith since 2001, previously served as the company’s crane sales manager for Texas.

His promotion puts him in charge of all Kirby-Smith crane territory managers to help provide customers with faster response times, more insight into new crane inventory, and increased rental fleet visibility. The company says the move also helps it prepare for more regional and national growth.

“We expect this new role that John is taking on will provide the necessary synergy and continuity between our 10 branch locations to maximize inventory availability and provide more insight into new, innovative products from our key manufacturer partners, and ultimately will lead to an enhanced level of service for our current & future clients,” said Ben Graham, vice president and crane division manager for Kirby-Smith.

Ballard, the company’s newly hired operations manager for its Odessa, Texas, branch, oversees the location’s parts, service, and rental operations.

Before joining Kirby-Smith, Ballard was project manager for Komatsu America’s CST team.

His more than 25 years of heavy equipment experience also includes 12 years of being a master mechanic and EOD shop foreman with Road Machinery, LLC.

Ballard will relocate from Houston to the Permian Basin area for his new role.

“My aim is to build our Odessa branch to become the highest example of product support in the industry, and to increase the awareness of our customer base about the offerings available to them - especially our rental offerings. The opportunities for growth are limitless,” Ballard said.
