Sterling Lumber, a Chicago-area producer of crane and access mats, has hired Shane Green as its new president and has consolidated its operations in a new plant in Phoenix, Ill.

Former president Carter Sterling is now the company's CEO. This marks the first time in the company's 65-year history that the Sterling Company will be run by someone outside of the Sterling family.

Green was most recently president of Homer Industries LLC,  Lockport, Ill., which  employs about 120 people in multiple divisions. Before heading Homer, Green spent more than a decade in banking. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of St. Francis.

“His leadership, finance background, and experience with forest products makes Shane a perfect fit for Sterling’s future objectives,” said Sterling CEO Carter Sterling. As CEO, Carter Sterling will ensure that the business retains the Sterling family values and that Sterling Lumber Company’s growth continues to revolve around the company's most important asset: its people.

In addition to having a new president, Sterling Lumber now occupies a new, expanded plant with 520,000 sq. ft. under roof and a total area of 60 acres in Phoenix, Ill. It consolidates operations formerly at three plants and houses 117 employees. The company says it plans to add 50 more employees over the next 24 months.

Sterling Lumber manufactures matting for portable and temporary roads and work platforms used throughout North America, and also can provide turnkey solutions to access matting needs. Sterling prides itself on choosing dense hardwoods from its timberland, and on producing eco-friendly, quality matting products that protect people, equipment, land, and the customer’s time and budget.
