Product Review: Skyjack SJ86T Telescopic Boom Lift

Skyjack's largest telescopic boom lift, the SJ86T, made its debut in spring 2015. The lift features an 86-ft. platform height with a jib that rotates 65°/-60° and has a horizontal outreach of 76'10".

The SJ86T features a 36"x96" platform and an unrestricted platform capacity of 500 lbs. Restricted capacity is set at 750 lbs.

The new telescopic boom lift shares many of the same design features as other Skyjack machines, including an axle-based drive system, relay-based control system, fiberglass cowlings, and modular platform railings. This commonality makes troubleshooting and parts support all the more easy for customers.

Troubleshooting and maintenance is also made easy through the use of the SkyCoded color-coded and numbered wiring system. Using a relay-based control system allows Skyjack AWPs to operate using a simplified system with less expensive components.

AxlDrive, Skyjack’s exclusive mechanical axle-based drive system, uses an operator controlled locking differential on the rear axle and non-spin and limited-slip differential on the front axle. This allows the boom lift to climb grades of up to 45%, and navigate over most job site terrain.

Additionally, the EasyDrive feature orients the boom lift controls with the operator, regardless of the position of the turret over the chassis.
