Southern Crane Adds Liebherr AT to its Fleet

Southern Crane, Raleigh, N.C., announced its newest addition, a 190-ton Liebherr model LTM1160-5.1 hydraulic all-terrain crane.
According to Earl Johnson III, president, this Liebherr has one of the strongest lift capacities for any crane in its class and can efficiently accomplish high-elevation reach work and long radius work.

The crane travels on five axles with a two-axle boom dolly. It is equipped with 203 feet of main telescoping boom, plus up to 141 feet of jib with a tip height of 328 feet.

Most cranes of this size require the boom to be removed when in transport, and users face more freight costs as a result, but the 190-ton Liebherr LTM1160-5.1 can have 203 feet of main boom, plus 72 feet of short jib telescoped out in just over eight minutes, according to information from Southern Crane. The total main boom jib combination gives it up to 317 feet of total boom.

The Liebherr LTM1160-5.1, which the company has dubbed “The Bear,” will be used in construction markets throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.  “It’s our biggest, strongest crane,” said Johnson. “It has nearly unlimited capabilities, so we named it ‘The Bear’ to help our customers remember it.”
