TMEIC GE Awarded Contract for New Peruvian Port

TMEIC GE, Roanoke, Va., has signed a contract with ZPMC to provide automation and drives systems for DP World’s new container port in Callao, Peru, near the capital, Lima. The company is providing its MaxSpeed crane control system featuring TMdrive-10 controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and crane management systems for this key transshipment hub and gateway port for the west coast of South America.

The new container terminal with one million TEU capacity, will initially be constructed with two berths comprising 650 meters of quay line and 22 hectares of yard, and is expected to be operational second quarter, 2010. The berths will initially be capable of handling vessels of up to 8,000 TEU nominal capacity.

DP World chose TMEIC GE due to the company’s product support and the quality and reliability of its equipment. Callao is the largest and fastest growing container port on the west coast of South America. Peru has strategic importance in handling the growing Pacific traffic between Asia and South America for raw materials and finished goods transportation to growing markets.
