Truck Crane Tips onto Side while Lowering Tree Branch | Equipment Accident

A telescopic-boom truck crane tipped onto its side when the operator tried to lower a cut tree branch at too long a radius in Fort Collins, Colo. No one was hurt, but the crane’s 120-ft. boom stretched across two properties and its tip hovered near a house roof for more than a day while two other cranes were brought in to up-right the 80,000-lb. tipped rig. The operator said he had followed the capacity charts, but that the crane tipped very slowly until it reached a balancing point. OSHA is investigating. – www.coloradoan.com
