Manitowoc and Grove Cranes Used to Build Parking Structure

A Manitowoc 2250 crawler crane and a Grove GMK6250L all-terrain crane were used to help construct a two-story underground parking structure at a mixed-use apartment complex in Bloomington, Minn. Hanson Structural Precast, a precast subcontractor working for general contractor Frana Companies, rented the cranes from Vic’s Crane and Heavy Haul to lift and place precast concrete wall panels and flooring sections. The heaviest load, a 60-foot “double T” floor section, weighed 65,000 pounds. The load-bearing walls each weighed 38,000 pounds.

Vic’s first used the GMK6250L all-terrain crane to place the precast wall sections, which were taken directly from the trucks and placed into position as load-bearing walls. With the perimeter walls complete, the Manitowoc 2250 crawler crane placed the heavier flooring slabs and the interior walls. To ensure the trucks could access the jobsite while keeping the crane on steady ground, the 2250 was assembled with Series 3 counterweights and 210 feet of main boom.

Both cranes were on the jobsite for one month. The Grove 6250L will later return to work on the structural steel of the eight-story apartment structure above the parking ramp.
