Retriever from Versatran Cuts Costs During Equipment Delivery | Construction News

The Retriever transporter from Versatran Inc., Watertown, Wis., is expected to cut the costs of downtime and labor and increase revenue through lower maintenance and repair costs and less fuel consumption.

The Retriever’s deck and loading ramp are operated by the truck’s air system. Using air eliminates the use of hydraulics, rollers, sliders, and cable reels, which takes out concerns for fluid spills and cold weather downtime. The trailer can load and unload up to 40,000 lbs. with the engine off, complying with anti-idle regulations and saving on engine wear and fuel. When loading the truck, the forward deck remains horizontal, and the deck is finished with a high-traction epoxy surface to prevent slipping. The low deck height also helps keep operators and equipment safe when climbing on and off the deck, and it allows truck drivers to drive under more bridges and underpasses.

Accessories include a lighted, covered control box, rear hitch with a capacity to tow up to 9 tons, stainless steel toolboxes, quick-deploy dock legs, and an optional 15,000-lb. traversing winch with radio remote control.
