Imperial Crane Services, Bridgeview, Ill., is marking 40 years in the crane industry with an open house in September, which will include a demonstration of new Sany crawler crane models. The late John Bohne started the company in 1969 with a single crane. Touted today as the largest locally-owned full-service crane company in the Midwest, Imperial is run by its late founder’s sons, B.J., Lance and Jonathan.
With growth, over the years the company has continued to cater to daily construction while expanding into refinery work. Long-term partnerships with companies such as Citgo Petroleum and BP Products North America have helped Imperial build and diversity its fleet, which currently stands at over 220 cranes. The company attributes its profitability during difficult economic times to reliable relationships with such international corporations.
In 1995 Imperial Crane Sales, was created as a division of Imperial Crane Services, and started the company on the road to renting, buying and selling cranes. A second location was needed, and Imperial expanded into Northwest Indiana. Today the company’s Griffith, Ind. location allows customers accessibility to the local market, saving both time and money.
The business has more than doubled in the last four years alone, according to statements from Imperial, which now serves as a dealer for Tadano, Stros, and Barko, as well as the new line of Sany crawler cranes ranging from 50 to 1000 tons. The company also has a wide variety of Grove, Lieberr, Manitowoc, Link-Belt and Terex cranes both as rentals and for sale.
