BendPak Inc. has begun shipping its OctaFlex 12DPS two-post lift, which combines a 12,000-pound vehicle lifting capacity with an integrated 6,000-pound lift-assist system. The eight-arm design is intended to support cab-off repairs, electric vehicle battery replacement, and other jobs requiring controlled movement of heavy components.
The lift uses four primary arms to support a vehicle and four auxiliary arms to raise, lower, or hold components such as cabs, drivetrains, EV batteries, and suspension assemblies. The auxiliary arms can be moved out of the way when they are not needed, allowing the equipment to operate as a conventional two-post lift.
BendPak introduced the OctaFlex concept in 2024 and refined it over the following two years using customer feedback and laboratory testing. The OctaFlex 12DPS is now shipping.
The patent-pending OctaFlex Series uses a magnetic pendant controller with two-speed controls. Technicians can operate the primary and auxiliary arms independently at normal or slow speed, providing control for tasks such as installing EV battery packs or removing and realigning cabs and chassis.
The pendant controller also allows operators to stand away from the lift columns for improved visibility around the vehicle.
“As dealers and independent repair shops continue to struggle with an aging and shrinking technician workforce, they also face surging demand for labor-intensive tasks like cab-off repairs and EV service,” says Jeff Kritzer, BendPak president and CEO. “OctaFlex eases the pressure by helping technicians handle complex jobs independently with greater efficiency and less physical strain, maximizing throughput and profit potential.”
Dave’s Auto Center in Centerville, Utah, services trucks from across the United States and performs multiple cab-off repairs each day across its 25 bays. Owner Dave Bell said the OctaFlex has reduced production time at the shop.
“OctaFlex is a gamechanger if you’re pulling cabs off trucks,” he says. “Not only does it make the cab-off process easier, but since you can raise the chassis while the cab is in the air, you can do brake work, suspension work, change the oil – a lot of the extra jobs customers want done while their truck is in the shop – while you’re waiting for parts. It’s significantly more efficient than finishing the cab-off first and then completing the remaining work after the truck is back together.”
BendPak estimates that shops can save an average of two hours per cab-off operation. The company calculates that a shop completing 20 cab removals per month in an OctaFlex-equipped bay, with an hourly labor rate of $150, could generate an additional $6,000 in monthly revenue, or $72,000 per year. The system is designed to let technicians work on a vehicle in one bay rather than tying up two bays. It can also reduce the need for a second technician or helper.
Because the lift supports both the cab and chassis, technicians can work while standing instead of spending extended periods on the floor checking vehicle connections. Keeping components at eye level is intended to improve working ergonomics, while the system eliminates the need to manually move heavy components or lift tables.
The OctaFlex 12DPS includes BendPak’s Automatic Swing Arm Restraint System (ASARS), which secures the primary lift arms. According to BendPak, ASARS provides a full 360-degree grip with 10 times the holding power of traditional swing arm restraints.
The lift has undergone third-party testing and is ALI Certified under model number EV12DPS to meet industry safety and performance standards.
The system also keeps the cab and chassis aligned throughout the repair process. Technicians can use the pendant controller to move the components together during reassembly, helping reduce the risk of paint damage or other problems caused by misalignment.
BendPak will showcase the OctaFlex 12DPS at the SEMA Show November 3 to 6 in Upper South Hall, Booth 36129. Product specifications, photos, videos, and the interactive return-on-investment calculator are available at BendPak.com/OctaFlex.
