Brigade has introduced its new Backsense Radar On-Screen Display (OSD), a vehicle safety system that combines radar and camera technologies into a single in-cab display for construction and mining applications.
The new system is designed to improve operator awareness by consolidating safety alerts and visual monitoring into one interface. Brigade said the system is intended to help reduce driver distraction and cognitive load in demanding operating environments.
Backsense Radar OSD combines adaptive radar technology with AI-powered camera systems. According to the company, the radar can detect objects at distances up to 196.85 feet (60 meters) and is designed to operate in conditions such as dust, darkness and poor weather. The camera technology is intended to recognize pedestrians and other hazards in real time.
The system overlays radar detection zones and alerts directly onto the in-cab monitor and includes a five-stage audible warning system. Brigade said the unified display is designed to provide operators with a clearer view of activity around the vehicle without requiring multiple monitors.
The system also includes configurable detection zones and optional speed-based adaptive detection through a GPS module. Brigade said the feature automatically adjusts detection ranges based on vehicle speed without requiring manual resets or reconfiguration.
“Backsense Radar OSD represents a significant step forward in vehicle safety integration,” said Thierry Bourgeay, senior product manager at Brigade. “By combining radar and camera technologies into a single, intelligent system, we’re giving operators a clearer, more reliable picture of what’s happening around their vehicles. This helps reduce complexity in the cab while increasing confidence on the ground, especially in the challenging environments our customers operate in every day.”
According to Brigade, the system supports up to four radar sensors and three camera inputs, including AHD or CVBS cameras. It is also compatible with the company’s Backeye360 camera system and AI Human Form Recognition systems.
The radar sensors are rated IP69K and are designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +85 degrees Celsius. Brigade said the system meets CE marking, UNECE R10 and FCC/IC approval requirements.
The company said Backsense Radar OSD is available through Brigade and its distributor and installer network.
