Detroit has expanded its vocational transmission portfolio with the DT12-VL, a lightweight automated manual transmission designed for heavy-duty jobs that require both strength and precision. The DT12-VL is aimed at applications where payload efficiency and drivability are critical, including aerial lifts and material handling vehicles.
“The DT12-VL is a testament to our commitment to the vocational customer, and to our ability to adapt and innovate on proven solutions," said Aaron Scates, vice president, vocational and medium duty market development, Daimler Truck North America. "With the DT12-VL, we can offer the benefits of the Vocational DT12 to customers that need to maximize payload.”
The DT12-VL provides 125 pounds of weight savings over the DT12-V and supports gross combination weights up to 80,000 pounds. It features 12 forward speeds, up to four reverse speeds, rear PTO and a wide ratio range. The transmission includes off-road, rock free and paver modes, which improve performance in challenging operational environments.
Available for Freightliner 114SD and Western Star 47X with Detroit DD13 engines, the DT12-VL complements the existing DT12-V and DT12-VX lineup. Production is set to begin in December 2025, providing lift and access fleets with a versatile and reliable transmission option.
