Genie Rolls Out 12,000-lb. Telehandler

Genie unveiled its GTH-1256 high-reach telehandler last week at World of Concrete, the first 12,000-lb. machine from the manufacturer. The GTH-1256 completes Genie's family of telehandlers, which also includes the 5,500-lb. GTH-5519, 6,000-lb. GTH-636, 8,000-lb. GTH-844, 10,000-lb. GTH-1056,  and 15,000-lb. GTH-1544.

Featuring a low-profile boom, the Genie GTH-1256 telehandler weighs 36,600 lbs. and has a maximum lifting capacity of 12,000 lbs. At its full height of 56 ft., it can lift 7,000 lbs., or it can pick 3,500 lbs. at its 42-ft. maximum horizontal reach. It also can lift 5,000 lbs. at full reach without outriggers.

The four-stage boom has internal chains and hydraulic hard lines for extra protection. An access door to the chains and cylinders is at the rear of the machine. Because the boom is mounted low and the cab sits higher, the operator can easily see the right side and right rear of the machine. The cab includes a standard adjustable suspension seat and steering column.

The GTH-1256 shares the same chassis design as Genie's largest telehandler, the GTH-1544, as well as the driveline that includes Dana axles with full-time planetary, four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering. A tight steering radius and hydrostatic transmission enable precise placement of materials and smooth control. Heavy-duty fenders are standard on all four wheels.

The GTH-1256 telehandler's side-mounted engine provides excellent service access. “Because the GTH-1256 is easy to service, that translates into maximum uptime for our customers which is a tremendously important quality,” said Anders Mantere, telehandler product manager for Terex AWP. Genie also offers its service support and Genuine Genie Parts to help maintain the best uptime.

The unit is currently powered by a 154-hp Deutz Tier 4I or a 148-hp Perkins Tier 4I engine. While Genie is still working through its Tier 4 Final engine package, the interim engine requires a DPF. At 90 hours, the regeneration light will turn on, but the machine will operate de-rated without regeneration.

Located on the quick attach system at the tip of hte boom, Genie has mounted a shackle for hoisting loads suspended from slings. This shackle will be a standard feature on all Genie telehandlers in 2015.

The new Genie GTH-1256 telehandler is now in production and will be available only in the ANSI and CSA markets. GTH-1256 telehandler configurations for Latin America will follow in late 2015.
