VMAC unveiled its 2025 State of the Mobile Compressed Air Industry Report, based on feedback from professionals in sectors such as equipment repair, construction, infrastructure, agriculture and resource industries.
The report shows that 77% of service vehicles are now under ten years old, marking a ten-point increase over 2024. Most companies continue to run lean, with 74% operating just one to five trucks. In the lift and access space, compressed air tools remain a key part of the workflow — 83% of users reported using impact wrenches and 81% rely on drills. Just 5% do not use air tools.
Rotary screw compressors remain the top choice for users, who value their compact size and reliable performance. Among compressor types, gas-engine above-deck models slightly outrank UNDERHOOD systems, at 36% to 32%, respectively.
Over 79% of respondents said their tools require fewer than 100 CFM, even in high-demand environments. The report also details growing hesitations around adopting electric vehicles, with limited range (67%), charging infrastructure (59%) and long charge times (55%) cited as the top barriers.
Business concerns include a shortage of skilled workers (58%), import tariffs (49%) and economic slowdown fears (48%). Despite these pressures, over 80% of professionals anticipate that conditions will either improve or hold steady over the next year.
VMAC states the report is designed to help businesses gain insight from peer experiences and navigate evolving industry challenges.
