LUBE-A-BOOM has introduced LUBE-A-ROPE Rope Guard, a three-in-one penetrant and lubricant designed for wire ropes and cables that require visual inspection.
Rope Guard is applied as a light tan-colored grease, allowing operators and technicians to see where the product has been applied. The color then fades to clear, allowing the wire rope to be visually inspected for frays or damage.
The product's formula is designed to penetrate to the wire rope's core while also providing a surface coating. LUBE-A-BOOM says the penetration helps protect the rope at its core and extend its workable life, while the surface coating allows the rope to slide freely without friction.
The coating is also designed to wick away water and prevent rust and corrosion. Properties in the product allow it to cling to the rope's surface during use.
“Our Rope Guard product is very exciting because of how well it lubricates without having any color tint,” said LUBE-A-BOOM Vice President Jonathon Roberts. “We saw a need to provide a product that had better lubrication properties for wire ropes than was currently available, but also one that visually would allow easy and foolproof inspection of the rope. This product accomplishes both of those goals,” said Roberts.
Rope Guard is available as an NGLI #1 grease in 5-gallon and 1-gallon buckets and is generally compatible with auto-lube systems. LUBE-A-BOOM plans to offer the product in an aerosol format in fall 2026.
LUBE-A-ROPE Rope Guard is sold through LUBE-A-BOOM's global dealer network.
