Results from the 2025 State of the Mobile Compressed Air Industry Report indicate that adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) within mobile compressed air fleets remains limited. The survey found that only 5% of respondents are currently considering EVs for future fleet acquisitions.
The report identifies several key barriers to adoption, including infrastructure limitations, performance concerns, reliability questions and overall cost. Respondents also expressed uncertainty about whether electric vehicles can support compressed air systems under demanding jobsite conditions.
“Electric vehicles are part of the future, but the industry is not there yet,” said Mike Pettigrew, VMAC marketing manager. “Our customers are focused on uptime, payload and productivity, and until EVs can reliably deliver those, they will take longer to be adopted.”
The study highlights the role of continued investment in traditional fuel and alternative power technologies while the industry prepares for a longer-term transition toward electrification. VMAC reported it is tracking fleet trends and developing solutions adaptable to multiple power sources.
The annual State of the Mobile Compressed Air Industry Report is based on input from industry professionals, including fleet managers, mechanics and service truck upfitters, and provides insight into technology trends and operational challenges affecting mobile equipment users.
