AEM Invites Nominations for 2020 Hall of Fame Class

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers is seeking nominations for its class of 2020 Hall of Fame inductees.

The AEM Hall of Fame recognizes the pioneers whose inventions, ideas, leadership and courage have contributed to the industry and our community’s quality of life.

Since 2008, the AEM Hall of Fame has honored pioneering individuals who invented, managed, built, and led the off-road equipment industry. Inductees include luminaries from John Deere and J.I. Case, to William Smith Otis and Benjamin Holt.

Snorkel Earns Highest-Retained-Value Award from EquipmentWatch

Snorkel’s TB Series of 80’ and 86’ telescopic boom lifts has earned the Highest-Retained-Value award for the third consecutive year from EquipmentWatch.

Calculated over 12 months in 2018 and 2019, the Snorkel TB80 and TB86J telescopic boom lifts were deemed to have the highest retained value in the telescopic boom category by EquipmentWatch, an industry-leading database. With an average age in the market of 13.47 years, those models are projected to retain the highest percentage of their original value after five years.

Ideal Crane Rental Inc. now offers NiftyLift boom lifts as part of its fleet of rental equipment.

In addition to renting NiftyLift aerials, the family-owned equipment rental and lifting-services company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, has also become a NiftyLift dealer.

Ideal decided to take on NiftyLifts after seeing them at the 2020 American Rental Association trade show in February.

EUFMC Now Offers Online Educational Forum

The Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference now offers an online education connection to help people in the electric utility industry access its educational programs and to provide a forum for sharing professional knowledge.

The EUFMC’s annual conference in Williamsburg, Virginia, each spring features educational presentations by experts from utility fleets and related suppliers, as well as roundtable discussions in which fleet managers can share information to help each other solve problems and improve operations.

OSHA Gives Guidance to Help Construction Workers Avoid COVID-19

OSHA has issued industry-specific guidance to help construction workers avoid the COVID-19 virus.

When working in the construction industry, the following tips can help reduce the risk of exposure to the coronavirus:

·Encourage workers to stay home if they are sick.

·Allow workers to wear masks over their nose and mouth to prevent them from spreading the virus.

·Continue to use other normal control measures, including personal protective equipment (PPE), necessary to protect workers from other job hazards associated with construction activities.

Ritchie Bros.’ Online Auction Sells More than US$43 Million of Equipment

Last week in Houston, Ritchie Bros. sold more than 4,400 equipment items and trucks for more than US$43 million.

The April 21–22, 2020, auction, conducted with only online-bidding due to state gathering restrictions, attracted more than 8,600 registered bidders from 62 countries.

U.S. buyers bought about 93% of the equipment. The top three U.S. states in terms of buyers were Texas, California, and Florida. International buyers from countries such as India, Italy, and Peru bought 7% of the equipment. About 22% of purchases were made through Ritchie Bros.' mobile application.

IPAF Confirms New Presidential Team

IPAF Confirms New Presidential Team

The International Powered Access Federation has confirmed a new presidential team. During the federation’s 2020 annual general meeting, held April 23rd, Norty Turner of United Rentals was officially instated as the new president.

It was IPAF’s first AGM to be held as a virtual meeting, a result of ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It was also the first since Peter Douglas became IPAF CEO & managing director in Dec. 2019.

Manitou Partially Reopens European Production

Manitou Group has partially resumed activity at its production sites in France and Italy.

The limited reopening lets the company gradually restart its whole supply-and-production chain in the context of a health crisis that is still cause for concern.

In accordance with the regulations applicable to all the production sites, Manitou has implemented specific measures to protect the health of its onsite employees and service providers.

California Rental Association Exec Blackwell Passes

Dale Blackwell

Dale Blackwell, California Rental Association executive director and owner of Aba Daba Rents, Sacramento, California, died April 15, 2020, from complications after a traumatic brain injury. He was 65.

Blackwell served on the CRA board of directors and as an officer for 17 years and had been executive director since 2006. He was also the chairman of CRA's insurance committee for 14 years.

In addition to serving the CRA, Blackwell had owned Aba Daba Rents since 2000.
