The American Ladder Institute (ALI) is conducting its 2026 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey, marking nearly a decade of data collection aimed at evaluating ladder safety trends in the U.S.
As the only approved developer of ladder safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, ALI uses the survey to assess ladder-related injuries, OSHA citation activity and the effectiveness of safety training programs. Previous survey results were published in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2024.
Once data collection concludes, ALI will release a comprehensive report outlining trends in ladder safety education, types of ladder accidents and injuries, citation frequency and changes compared with earlier surveys.
Participation is open to safety professionals, employers and organizations that work with ladders. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous. The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2026.
“Results will help ALI continue to improve its ladder safety training materials, hone topics for future observances of National Ladder Safety Month and help professionals and DIYers better understand proper ladder usage,” said Mike Van Bree, president of the American Ladder Institute.
The survey launch aligns with the upcoming 10th anniversary of National Ladder Safety Month, which will be observed in March. The 2026 campaign theme, “10 Years of Safer Climbing,” includes weekly focus areas covering ladder selection, inspection, setup, safe climbing practices and stepstool safety.
ALI offers free ladder safety training through its online training platform and licenses the program for companies integrating ladder safety into their workplace training efforts.
