JLG Introduces New Features for ClearSky Smart Fleet Platform

JLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company and a global manufacturer of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) and telehandlers, announced three new features for its ClearSky Smart Fleet IoT platform. The enhancements, Digital Analyzer Reader, Automatic Site Networks, and Elevation-Based Localization, aim to improve how fleet managers monitor and manage equipment.

"This is about transforming telematics from a physical world to a digital one," said Ara Eckel, JLG’s director of product management for connected solutions. "With JLG ClearSky Smart Fleet, we’re not just helping our customers manage their equipment from a dot on a map; we've created an interactive platform that provides them with real-time, actionable insights that enhance their operational efficiency."JLG ES4046 scissor lift with Clear Sky decal and beacon

ClearSky Smart Fleet’s new Digital Analyzer Reader replaces traditional handheld analyzers, allowing technicians to use mobile devices for diagnostics and machine data retrieval.

Key benefits include:

  • Wireless access without handheld analyzers
  • Improved data visualization on mobile screens
  • One-page machine summaries with fault logs and diagnostics
  • Language translation for global usability
  • Seamless over-the-air updates

JLG’s new Automatic Site Networks feature uses Bluetooth mesh technology to streamline connectivity and equipment tracking.

This tool offers:

  • Automatic equipment connection upon site arrival
  • Real-time location tracking
  • Proximity alerts for machines entering or leaving a site
  • Functionality without GPS or cellular signal
  • Scalability for fleets of all sizes

JLG will soon roll out Elevation-Based Localization to address challenges on multi-level job sites. The feature uses barometric pressure sensors in ClearSky Smart Fleet beacons to identify machine locations by elevation.

It will allow users to:

  • Locate equipment above or below their position
  • Improve inventory management on multi-level projects
  • Streamline service calls with precise location data
  • Activate the feature via over-the-air updates—no retrofits required

“JLG’s ClearSky Smart Fleet is the industry’s first two-way fleet management and communication platform, elevating connectivity into true interactivity,” said Eckel. “With these latest feature additions, ClearSky Smart Fleet continues to evolve traditional telematics into IoT-driven fleet management, ensuring users have the most advanced tools to optimize operations, enhance productivity and reduce downtime.”
