United Rentals has introduced a new AI-powered digital assistant designed to help customers identify and select equipment for their projects.

The company announced March 12 that its Equipment Agent provides equipment recommendations through an online conversational interface.

Customers can describe jobsite needs in plain language and receive suggested equipment options, along with details such as capacity, reach, terrain limitations and accessory requirements.

“The Equipment Agent connects United Rentals’ equipment expertise with our customers' needs,” said Tony Leopold, senior vice president and chief technology and strategy officer at United Rentals. “It replaces traditional searching and filtering with an intuitive, agentic chat experience. Customers using the Equipment Agent are seeing a 70% improvement in finding the right equipment for their projects.”

United Rentals said the tool is designed to simplify equipment discovery and help customers make faster rental decisions earlier in the project planning process.

The assistant connects users directly to detailed equipment pages on the company’s website, allowing them to review specifications and move toward reserving equipment.

The Equipment Agent was developed using real customer questions and tested by United Rentals sales teams and equipment specialists.

United Rentals said the tool also supports its broader effort to expand digital jobsite tools and connected equipment capabilities.

The Equipment Agent is available on the United Rentals website.
