“Delays can disrupt traffic flow, create safety concerns, and impact the communities that depend on those systems every day,” said Pine Ridge Technologies founder Michael Rocca. “Most of the work we do is in high-traffic areas. We have to get in and out of our locations in quick order, or we end up contributing to the problem as opposed to fixing it.”

For Pine Ridge Technologies, that responsibility is part of daily operations, and no two days are the same. Company crews may spend their day installing traffic signal poles, performing roadway improvements, or supporting infrastructure projects for departments of transportation. Service crews are often tasked with responding to outages, repairing damaged equipment, or restoring systems.

“Across all of our operations and environments, aerial access equipment must provide both capability and control,” Rocca said. “Whether using a bucket truck for traffic signal maintenance or to access overhead electrical infrastructure, our crews need equipment that helps them work efficiently, and safety remains a constant priority.

“Equipment reliability also has a direct impact on our success,” Rocca continued. “Many of our service contracts include strict response requirements. In some cases, crews must be on-site within hours of receiving a call. We don’t get second chances. If a truck isn’t ready or doesn’t perform, it affects schedules, and the people relying on that service.”

Growing Fleet

With expectations that make dependable equipment essential and a growing fleet, Pine Ridge Technologies has been increasingly fielding new bucket trucks supplied by PALFINGER. In the past two years, the company has added multiple PALFINGER ETC MH 40 IH models.

“Reliability is key to our operation, so having equipment that doesn’t let us down in the field is one of the major reasons we’ve been migrating to PALFINGER products,” Rocca related. “We haven’t had any issues.

“Another advantage for us has been the versatility of the ETC MH 40 IH,” Rocca added. “Unlike larger boom configurations that can require additional working space, the unit’s articulated design helps operators position themselves while minimizing interference with surrounding traffic. For crews working in tight intersections and congested downtown environments, that’s a significant benefit.”

Equipment performance at Pine Ridge is also evaluated by the people who use it every day. For Joe Tadisco, electrician and operator, smooth operation and intuitive controls are among the most important qualities in a lift truck. 

In particular, Tadisco pointed to the responsiveness of the controls and the overall stability from a centered lower-boom design in the ETC MH 40 IH as key advantages. “With a stable turn surface and predictable movement, it’s easier to stay focused,” he said. “In high-traffic work zones, that can make a difference.”

Complex Projects

More than 20 years ago, when Michael Rocca founded Pine Ridge Technologies, the company looked much different than it does today. Initially, he worked independently providing project management and estimating services. As opportunities grew, so did the company. In 2013, Pine Ridge Technologies expanded into electrical contracting, taking on increasingly complex projects throughout the region.

One of the company’s earliest major projects involved installing a security system for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). From there, Pine Ridge Technologies continued expanding its capabilities, developing expertise in traffic signal systems, transit infrastructure, roadway lighting, and electrical construction.

Pine Ridge Technologies’ relationship with PALFINGER has also expanded. Years before adding bucket trucks to the fleet, Rocca was introduced to the brand through their knuckleboom cranes, which provided the versatility and flexibility the company needed for work in busy urban environments. 

As Pine Ridge Technologies continues to expand across New England, reliability will remain a key factor in future fleet decisions.
